What to Wear Wednesday |Tacoma Portrait Photographer

My last What to Wear Wednesday
http://angelamarvelphotography2.blogspot.com/2012/04/what-to-wear-wednesday-tacoma-portrait.html

focuses a lot on patterns and colors that do not directly match and are more complimentary or that coordinate with each other. I wanted this 2nd installment to focus on more matching directly. Both ways are totally acceptable and just depends on the look and feel you are going for.

Here are some examples of clothing choices that has everyone in the same color scheme. Notice how everyone is not in matching outfits, its just a matching color. Sometimes wearing all the exact same thing can make a photo more stiff, but here are some great examples where its very similar but because the outfits are different, still feels fresh.

Here we all choose to wear navy shirts and jeans.

This family all wore black.

and here white is the main color...

These give you an idea of how to match in the same color but still not be stiff and all wearing the exact same thing. Hope this helps!

Made from Pinterest Monday Meets What to Wear Wednesday.....on Tuesday :)

Today's blog post will be "Made from Pinterest Monday" meets "What to Wear Wednesday"...

What is Pinterest? It's this pretty cool site that everyone shares "pins" from various websites sharing ideas on anything from receipes, crafts, photos and much more.

Here is one of the very first things I made from an idea I only saw on Pinterest. MONSTER PANTS!

My boys are always ripping their pants. Always. I think pants around here last maybe a month, so we have a lot of holes. So when I saw this pin I knew I had to try it.

Here is how I made them...

First start with a pair of jeans that have a hole in them (pretty simple)....then I made the eyes first. I did this because it was much easier to attach them to the Jeans thru the hole then it is thru the entire pant leg. I made one pair doing the eyes first, and another doing them last....way easier to do them first.

Then I made the mouth area. It was much easier to make the entire mouth and sew it to itself then to sew the red mouth and teeth separately to the jeans.

then I put it all together and the monster was complete!

Here is my tip: REALLY sew the monster parts down. Go over it several times because kids are rough and it won't take much for the parts to either fall off and rip apart.

Because my kids are pretty rough, they usualy have a second hole in the other knee...so to cover that up, I just made little knee monsters...pretty cute :) They didn't have to be that big because the hole wasn't as big as the other side.

and that brings me to my What to Wear Wednesday portion....

Not every photo session has to be "Sunday best" or "what's in" and "trendy", you can have fun too, especially for a mini session. I took my boys out for a mini session wearing their monster jeans and brother T-shirts and it made for a fun colorful outfit that was different then the usual outfits I dress them in for shoots. Plus the boys loved what they were wearing.

Here are some of the photos from that mini shoot...

What to Wear Wednesday | Tacoma Portrait Photographer

Every time I book a session I get asked this question..."What should we wear"? I have a few paragraphs that I write to clients explaining a few things, or mostly the "don'ts" that can make your portraits less then stellar. Thus, I thought I would try to post every few weeks some clothing tips to help guide you to choose color combos and patterns that make your session really pop.
For this first post, I will link you to a board on my pinterest account. Someone has made all these wonderful clothing ideas and can give you pretty good ideas on clothing choices and color combos :) Besides my own what to wear board, if you are on Pinterest, type "what to wear" into the search box for lots of fabulous ideas!

Many of those photos on the above link show you how to coordinate your family using complimentary colors. This is a great resource to use as reference for those that have a hard time figuring out which colors go best together.

Keep in mind that you do not have to match exactly for your session. Everyone doesn't need to be in the same color, or the same pattern shirt.

One thing I have found that works really well is finding one piece of clothing that you love for one member of your family. Usually it has a pattern or color scheme. Maybe's it's a shirt or a dress or even a fun pair of pants. Then you match everyone else in the family to that person.

Here the daughter has on a shirt that has a pattern to it that contains a few different colors. The other three members of her family are wearing three of the colors that are found in her shirt. They are all wearing something different, but yet totally match.

Here is an another example of how to match your clothes. The Dad is in blue, Mom is in red, and then the child is in a shirt that is both blue and red. Works really well!

Another board I want to share is more for the moms and teen girls in your family.

Usually its Mom that is booking the session and as most women wants to look fabulous. Here are some fun trendy clothing ideas and how to coordinate your shoes and accesories too for the women in your family!
